Wigs Are as Unique As You Are

If cancer treatment has caused you to lose some or all of your hair, you may find it helpful to wear a wig.

How to Measure Your Head

To measure accurately, wet your hair to flatten it as much as possible. If your measurements don't match the sizechart exactly, select the size that is closest to your largest measurement. Velcro® tabs inside each wig allow foradjusting the circumference up to 5 inches larger or smaller to ensure a secure fit.

Wig Measuring Guide

1. Measure Circumference.

Start in the front of your natural hairline and follow to the nape of your neck and measure all the way around to the starting point.

2. Measure Front to Back.

With your hair lying flat, measure from your natural hairline in the front, over the top of your head and to the nape of the neck.

3. Measure Side to Side.

Start in the front of your ear where the hairline ends. Bring the tape over the top of your head and in front of the other ear.

Choosing the Right Color

  • Before treatment, if possible, cut a large lock of hair from the front of your head as a color reference.
  • In outside light, compare your hair to the wig swatches.
  • As we age, a lighter color is often more flattering and gives a softer, more natural look.
  • Chemo can make your face look pale. If you have black hair, consider choosing dark brown for a more flattering look.
  • If you’re a brunette and are going gray, consider choosing a wig in a lighter shade of brown, possibly with subtle highlights. White wigs can be very flattering, too.

Styling Your Wig

  • Many wig styles, especially shorter ones, need only to be shaken before they are ready to wear.
  • For a more natural look, don’t try to get every hair into place.
  • For a personalized touch, consider using our EverYou wig styling gel. Simply apply it with your hands to sculpt your wig into your desired style. This gel not only boosts volume but also ensures your style stays put. Washing it out is a breeze with our EverYou shampoo. Experiment until you discover your perfect look.
  • You may want your hairstylist to trim and/or thin the bangs or trim the length of the wig slightly to suit your face. Use the chin strap in our wig styling kit to keep your wig in place while styling or trimming.
  • Once you are happy with the style, you can hold the style in place with our EverYou wig hairspray.
  • Do not use a color rinse on your synthetic wig; it will damage the fibers.
  • Do not use a hair dryer or curling iron on your wig unless your wig is heat resistant.

Types of Wigs

Wigs come in various styles, materials, and constructions to suit every need and preference. Here's a brief overview of the different types and cap construction of wigs available through EverYou.

Synthetic wigs are crafted from artificial fibers such as polyester, acrylic, or a blend of fibers. These wigs are popular for their affordability, ease of maintenance, and wide range of colors and styles.

Made from genuine human hair, these wigs offer the most natural appearance and versatility. They can be styled, colored, and treated just like natural hair, providing a seamless blend with existing hair for a truly authentic look.

Heat resistant wigs are made from synthetic fibers that are specially developed to resist damage from excessive heat sources. Most heat-friendly wigs can be flat-ironed, curled, or blown dry using styling tools up to 350˚F/180˚C.

Caring for Your Wig

  • When not wearing your wig, store it for short periods of time (overnight or for a few days) on a wig stand.
  • When storing the wig for longer periods of time, fold carefully and put back in its box.
  • Only use hair care products (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) specially formulated for wigs, such as those sold by EverYou.
  • Before washing, gently brush your wig or hairpiece to remove teasing or tangles.
  • Use one ounce of synthetic wig shampoo in two quarts of cold water (never hot).
  • Soak three to five minutes, then gently dip up and down. Do not rub.
  • Rinse thoroughly in cold water.
  • Pat out excess water in a towel. Do not brush or comb until thoroughly dry.
  • Allow your wig to dry at room temperature. No setting is necessary; curls will snap back into position when the hair is completely dry.
  • Do not use a hairdryer, blow dryer, or curling iron unless the wig is resistant to heat.
  • Avoid heat from stove burners or from opening an oven door.
  • Sudden bursts of heat can damage your wig, so be careful about getting close to an open flame or gas burner.
